Brief history of Eucalyptus breeding in Brazil under perspective of biometric advances Ciência Rural
Castro,Carla Aparecida de Oliveira; Resende,Rafael Tassinari; Bhering,Leonardo Lopes; Cruz,Cosme Damião.
ABSTRACT: Forest breeding is a science that has been developing in Brazil since 1941 being the Eucalyptus a highlighted genus in this scenario. In a global scene, Brazil is displayed prominently in productivity of Eucalyptus planting, due to favorable environmental conditions to cultivation development, and the incentive in research for improvement of traits of interest t observed in it species and hybrids. This research included a historical review of Eucalyptus breeding over the years under genetic biometric perspective in Brazil, from reports describing the pioneer planting up to the current genome wide selection (GWS) that came as a complement of forest breeding success. This review showed some of the tracks performed by researchers aiming to improve...

Combining population genomics and forward simulations to investigate stocking impacts: A case study of Muskellunge ( Esox masquinongy ) from the St. Lawrence River basin ArchiMer
Rougemont, Quentin; Carrier, Anne; Le Luyer, Jeremy; Ferchaud, Anne-laure; Farrell, John M.; Hatin, Daniel; Brodeur, Philippe; Bernatchez, Louis.
Understanding the genetic and evolutionary impacts of stocking on wild fish populations has long been of interest as negative consequences such as reduced fitness and loss of genetic diversity are commonly reported outcomes. In an attempt to sustain a fishery, managers implemented nearly five decades of extensive stocking of over a million Muskellunge (Esox masquinongy), a native species in the Lower St. Lawrence River (Québec, Canada). We investigated the effect of this stocking on population genetic structure and allelic diversity in the St. Lawrence River in addition to tributaries and several stocked inland lakes. Using Genotype‐By‐Sequencing (GBS), we genotyped 643 individuals representing 22 locations and combined this information with forward...

Comparison of whole genome prediction accuracy across generations using parametric and semi parametric methods Animal Sciences
Atefi, Abbas; Shadparvar, Abdol Ahad; Ghavi Hossein-Zadeh, Navid.
Accuracy of genomic prediction was compared using three parametric and semi parametric methods, including BayesA, Bayesian LASSO and Reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces regression under various levels of heritability (0.15, 0.3 and 0.45), different number of markers (500, 750 and 1000) and generation intervals of validating set. A historical population of 1000 individuals with equal sex ratio was simulated for 100 generations at constant size. It followed by 100 extra generations of gradually reducing size down to 500 individuals in generation 200. Individuals of generation 200 were mated randomly for 10 more generations applying litter size of 5 to expand the historical generation. Finally, 50 males and 500 females chosen from generation 210 were randomly...

Draft-genome sequence data and phylogenomic comparison of two marine-sourced bacterial strains Pseudoalteromonas sp. MIP2626 and Psychrobacter sp. BI730 ArchiMer
Kothe, Caroline; Delbarre-ladrat, Christine; Renault, Pierre; Passerini, Delphine.
Halophilic and psychrophilic marine bacteria are source of interesting bioactive molecules for biotechnology. We report here the whole-genome sequences of two of them, Pseudoalteromonas sp. MIP2626 isolated from tropical peeled shrimps and Psychrobacter sp. BI730 isolated from deep-sea hydrothermal vent. Sequencing of both genomes was performed by Illumina HiSeq platform (2 × 150 pb). De novo assemblies using Spades v3.9 generated 136 contigs for Pseudoalteromonas MIP2626 and 42 contigs for Psychrobacter BI730, representing a genome size of 3.9 Mb and 3.2 Mb, respectively. Phylogenetic based on 16S rRNA gene sequence and phylogenomic analyses were reported to compare the new sequences with Pseudoalteromonas and Psychrobacter representative strains...

Exploring the biotechnologial applications in the archaeal domain BJM
Alquéres,S.M.C.; Almeida,R.V.; Clementino,M.M.; Vieira,R.P.; Almeida,W.I.; Cardoso,A.M.; Martins,O.B..
Archaea represent a considerable fraction of the prokaryotic world in marine and terrestrial ecosystems, indicating that organisms from this domain might have a large impact on global energy cycles. The extremophilic nature of many archaea has stimulated intense efforts to understand the physiological adaptations for living in extreme environments. Their unusual properties make them a potentially valuable resource in the development of novel biotechnological processes and industrial applications as new pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, nutritional supplements, molecular probes, enzymes, and fine chemicals. In the present mini-review, we show and discuss some exclusive characteristics of Archaea domain and the current knowledge about the biotechnological uses of...

Functionomics: the analysis of a postgenomic concept on the basis of pregenomic pharmacological studies in smooth muscle Anais da ABC (AABC)
Jurkiewicz,Aron; Caricati-Neto,Afonso; Jurkiewicz,Neide H..
The term functionomics (Amin 2003, Neumann et al. 2004) refers to a postgenomic integrated Systems Biology (Attur et al. 2002) using a multidimensional approach for cells, tissues and organs. It considers current or future involvement among genomics, proteomics or metabolomics, including the main factors that cause biological responses and modulation under different conditions. Our objective in the present review is to summarize the contemporary understanding of functionomics of smooth muscle pharmacology, based on the results obtained on the pregenomic era during several years in our laboratory. The present approach is based on the knowledge of the dynamics of the receptor system, which comprises a cascade of phenomena, leading from the drug...
